OSL DATING IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA AT PROPOSED ANCIENT CHINESE OBSERVATORY SITE.

The Helena Valley Stone Arrangement is comprised of more than sixty metres of dry stone walls and a diorite stone engraved with Chinese Hànzì characters located in Helena Valley near Western Australia’s capital city of Perth. It is currently registered by the Western Australian Government’s Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH) as Aboriginal site ID 4335 (DPLH, 1979), and is herein identified as the remains of an ancient astronomical observatory, possibly built for a Chinese Meridian survey as early as the thirteenth century. In this paper, we propose how the coordinates, dimensions, orientation and features of this Western Australian heritage site appear to have significant regard to Yuan Dynasty observatories in China.
